Description

Solid performances from an all-star cast bring this ensemble drama to life. As parallel stories unfold, the viewer discovers unlikely connections between several seemingly unrelated people. Though the film is divided up into segments entitled 'Happiness', 'Pleasure', 'Sorrow', and 'Love', the mood is melancholy overall. Splattered with violent acts, THE AIR I BREATHE touches on the aforementioned themes and more, pondering the meaning of life and death through characters who live on the edge and risk everything for the thrill of joy, chance, and escape, even if that means death.
The film begins with Forest Whitaker playing a bored and frustrated nine-to-fiver who feels stuck in his routine. After taking a huge risk on a whim and losing it all, the doomed businessman has the unlucky fortune of meeting with Brendan Fraser’s character, a numb hit-man who feels no remorse until crossing paths with a troubled pop star. At the centre of much of this chaos is Fingers, a ruthless villain intent on killing anyone who gets in the way of his success. Though the plot at times feels contrived with all its strategically placed coincidences, writer-director Jieho Lee anchors the film with clever editing and a thoughtful script, which is careful to cover events from multiple points of view. Julie Delpy and Emile Hirsch give dimension to the stories as secondary characters whose actions become central to the plot.

Bon, je l’ai un peu plus aimé que Manu… mais il y a effectivement bien mieux, car au final, il n’y a rien d’ultra surprenant. C’est intéressant de voir le rôle qu’a joué chacun dans la vie de celle qui s’en sort à la fin… mais tout ça, juste pour ça ?

Un bon casting surtout !

also bei mir blieb nicht viel hängen von diesem brei-gefühlsdusel-wirrwar von gescheiterten persönlichkeiten. schauspielerische leistungen gut, story weniger, bilder ok, sound super, spannung nicht vorhanden, dramatik naja.

Spezieller Film mit ausgereiftem Handlungstrang und guten Schauspielern.
Wer bei diesem Film am Abend schon im Halbschlaf auf dem Sofa sitzt, wird mit Mühe den Handlungsstrang verfolgen können. Allemal Sehenswert, wirkt auf den Zuschauer noch eine Zeit lang nach!

Vier verschiedene Personen, die für getrennt stattfindende Geschichten stehen. Trotz dieser anscheinend zusammenhanglosen Episoden, sind eben diese miteinander so verwoben, dass sie eine Geschichte ergeben. Praktisch so wie der nicht zu verändernde Verlauf vom Schicksal (retrospektiv betrachtet). Fazit: Die Grundidee dieses Films ist nicht so neu. "Lantana", "11:14", "L.A.Crash" sind vom Verlauf her ähnlich inszeniert. Dieses Werk ist lediglich eingebettet in die Momente Glück-Vergnügen-Sorgen-Liebe. 2mal ansehen hilft hier, um alle Details zu erfassen und zu verstehen. Als Erstlingswerk des Regisseurs ist der Film sehr gut. Relativ gesehen enthält er stellenweise Clichees, Pathos und andere kleine Unachtsamkeiten. Trotzdem nicht schlecht.
